George VI Uncrowned Portrait, Coat of Arms Design
A stylized coat of arms designed by George Edward Kruger-Gray was selected for the George VI 50 cent piece,
first issued in 1937. The initial obverse bore a legend containing an abbreviation for the Latin phrase,
“ET IDIAE IMPERATOR,” meaning “and Emperor of India” indicating that the King was emperor of that vast country.
The obverse was designed by T. H. Paget.
Composition .800 silver, .200 copper
Mintage 1,996,566. It is not known how many had rotated dies.
