This coin features Edward VII wearing the new crown that he helped design.
It is called the new Imperial or Tudor Crown.
In 1902 the word CANADA was transferred from the obverse to the reverse legend and new lettering and numerical fonts were used.
The wreath design and the Imperial State Crown were the same as used for the Victoria five cents.
Varieties: The matrix for the 1902 coinage was fully dated with the mint mark being added to the individual dies.
Two different font sizes were used to produce the “H” mint mark on the dies at the Royal Mint.
